Media Party is going global. While maintaining the original edition in Buenos Aires, we are launching versions of Media Party in other latitudes with the strategic and operational support of Hacks/Hackers global. In a little over a decade, the productive Media Party conference became a benchmark for digital media innovation, creating a space at the intersection of technology, storytelling, and slightly quirky people. We believe we have a role to play in bridging industries to improve the quality of information and, consequently, the quality of democracies.
Since its first edition in 2012—which featured speakers from The Guardian and The New York Times—more than 500 international guests and over 10,000 attendees have participated across all its editions, including a virtual version.
The conference was born in Argentina on the foundation of the Hacks/Hackers Buenos Aires community, which had access to a global scale of innovation through Hacks/Hackers global.
Media Party is a beacon due to its impact on the media ecosystem, its productive format, and its ability to facilitate connections between worlds that don’t usually overlap much. Dozens of organizations were created and strengthened around Hacks/Hackers and Media Party. We believe it is time to grow and consolidate, which is why we are developing a format that allows us to explore new markets, new challenges, and the gathering of new worlds.
Media Party facilitates connection, reflection, and action: the media industry in search of new talent, the tech industry trying to get closer to storytelling, the product industry, open data, and agencies attempting to understand how the media ecosystem works and how to design services.
After a decade of building networks, contacts, experiences, and fun—and following a few Media Party experiments in Miami and South Africa in the past—we believe it is time to lead a Media Party in Chicago and, why not, explore other latitudes.
The goal is to bring together entrepreneurs, journalists, developers, and designers from five continents for three days to work on the future of media. Media Party facilitates the intersection between these worlds, focusing on creating productive spaces and generating solutions that affect how people get informed and make decisions. We believe a vibrant and healthy media ecosystem improves the quality of information and the way societies make decisions. Better networks, better-informed citizens, better democracies.
The idea is to host a productive event that brings together major global companies and international networks of journalists, entrepreneurs, and developers to address relevant challenges. The various formats—including keynotes, a media fair, workshops, lightning talks, and a hackathon—are designed so that every participant finds their own adventure: discovering, showcasing, learning, and creating are the core stages of the conference. The collaborative environment is essential.
According to surveys conducted across recent Media Party editions, 72% of participants reported that the event impacted their organization, yielding an overall satisfaction score of 4.4 out of 5.
In recent years, we have worked across verticals such as audiences, monetization, and product, backed by a strong connection with civic hacker organizations. Right now, we believe the central pillars revolve around major technological trends, including synthetic media creation, ethics in AI development and usage, misinformation, personal privacy, and transforming mindsets in the face of digital change.
We are assembling an advisory board to help us better understand the nuances of each ecosystem, aiming for our first edition of Media Party in Chicago in mid-June, while keeping Media Party Buenos Aires set for early October. If you want to learn more, leave your email at mediaparty.info.
