Media Party for nerds! Or how we turn a conference into a media innovation hackathon

Discover. Get training. Do something. This is the ethos of Media Party.

If you have a technical profile, surely these activities will be of interest to you. Why? There are not many places in the world where conference attendees can connect with representatives of the great publishers, the great digital platforms, leaders in artificial intelligence and “do something” about it.

There are not too many other environments were conference attendes can meet with members of Associated Press, BBC News Labs, Google News Initiative, Hugging Face, Knight Lab, Content Authenticity Initiative, Streamship and Pixelstream among others, not only to talk but to design the future of media.

There are not too many other places where attendees can find partners like Hacks/Hackers, Knight Foundation, Google News Initiative, International Center For Journalists, Knight Lab at Northwestern University, WordPress Newspack, Content Authenticity Initiative, Creative Commons, Chi Hack Night, Open News, News Product Alliance, all those organizations with “special interest” in supporting projects at the intersection between media, artificial intelligence and the construction of solid democracies, all in one place.

All this is going to happen in Media Party, in Chicago, between June 8 to 10 at Polsky Exchange Center.

In most of media conferences, attendees go to find amazing speakers, check panels, participate in social partys, have coffee with guests, exchange cards or QR codes and go back home. At the opposite side, tech hackathons are designed to attract developers or entrepreneurs interested into show what they do. Without too much context, without too much sharing.

Media Party was born to break that logic and for that we believe it is essential that there is an active presence of technical teams to make it successfull.

Media Party targets three types of audiences: a cluster of people interested in creating content, a cluster of technology-based people interested in solving relevant problems for society, and entrepreneurs who allow these ventures to go ahead.

Media Party’s programming team has scheduled a series of keynotes and workshops that are designed to spark ideas and improve tech-based knowledge leading up to the hackathon. The hackathon doesn’t just start on the last day, but in each of the previous conversations and workshops.

To be clear, we do not expect projects to be finished in one day, but rather that lasting bonds that are generated will impact the media ecosystem and in the artificial intelligence arena

The people and the organizations that can help you to grow will be in the same room. There is not traditional prize, but companies and organizations that can help you scale your idea at large.

Please enjoy activities designed for tech people:
