Juan Manuel Ortiz de Zárate “Normsy: AI + Human Empathy to Defuse Online Toxicity in Real Time”

Media Party

In this talk, Juan Manuel Ortiz presents Normsy, an artificial intelligence born from a doctoral thesis and developed by the company Data Voices. Its main goal is to detoxify social media, combating online violence especially on the X platform. This tool utilizes academic communication strategies to mitigate conflicts and reduce hate speech in digital environments. Thus, the project positions itself as an innovative solution to improve online coexistence through advanced technology.

The system detects toxic posts in real time and suggests strategic responses that avoid escalating aggression unnecessarily. It is designed so that NGOs fighting against racism, sexism, and xenophobia can optimize their interventions efficiently. The focus centers on transforming the dynamics of negative conversations into much safer interactions.

With more than 30,000 interventions, the project demonstrates a real impact by decreasing interaction with violent and aggressive accounts. Studies confirm that these actions promote a healthier digital life and an exchange of ideas free from hostility. By reducing toxicity, Normsy ensures that technology serves to unite communities rather than divide them.
