From Buenos Aires to Barcelona: The Legacy and DNA of Media Party

Media Party

Across 15 editions, Media Party has established itself as a premier global forum for media innovation across Latin America and the United States. Originating in Buenos Aires within the Hacks/Hackers community, this initiative has evolved into an international ecosystem operating at the precise intersection of journalism, data science, and technology.

On September 7–8, 2026, this global movement will make its European debut at CaixaForum Barcelona. The upcoming edition centers on a single, urgent question: how do we sustain the integrity of information in the post-search era and the age of generative AI?

Media Party goes beyond the conventional framework of tech conferences characterized by passive observation. Instead, it serves as a living laboratory, a community-driven ecosystem, and a collaborative incubator designed to address the future of information.

The Mission: Better Informed, Better Networks, Better Democracy

At its core, Media Party is an NGO dedicated to a critical objective: sustaining a trustworthy, independent, and resilient information ecosystem. The initiative operates under the conviction that blending rigorous journalistic criteria with advanced digital tools is essential to addressing the trust crisis in contemporary media.

Rather than merely projecting future trends, the organization actively constructs solutions by:

  • Building institutional capacity and fostering cross-disciplinary talent.
  • Accelerating strategic projects that counter disinformation and mitigate platform dependency.
  • Influencing public policy to safeguard transparency and truth.

Our foundational objective remains definitive: Better informed, better networks, better democracy.

The Blueprint: Discover, Learn, Do

The architecture of Media Party Barcelona translates conceptual inspiration into tangible execution through a progressive three-pillar workflow.

1. DISCOVER: Inspiration and Ecosystem Mapping

  • Keynotes: Strategic analyses on AI, audiences, and verification by global pioneers, featuring simultaneous English-Spanish translation.
  • Lightning Talks: Fast-paced, high-impact case studies and project demonstrations delivered by creators.
  • The Media Fair: An interactive showcase of pioneering global media projects, designed for live tool demonstrations and direct networking.

2. LEARN: Productive, Hands-on Sessions

  • Workshops: Hands-on, collaborative sessions designed to learn practical methodologies and apply cutting-edge tools directly to news production, data structures, and editorial processes.

3. DO: The Hackathon

  • A collaborative challenge where cross-disciplinary teams build functional prototypes addressing the intersection of AI, news, and democracy. The session features specialized prizes aimed at funding and continuing the development of the winning projects.

Why Barcelona? Why Now?

The disruption of traditional search traffic and the rise of generative AI are global challenges that require a unified response. Media Party Barcelona creates this vital connection, bridging the collaborative innovation of the Latin American community with the advanced technical and strategic expertise of the European media ecosystem. Over two days, this cross-border collaboration will translate complex industry shifts into actionable solutions across four core tracks: information integrity, newsroom AI frameworks, news discovery within fragmented audiences, and sustainable models.

We invite you to participate actively in shaping this new era. Join us at CaixaForum this September, bring your technological toolkit, and collaborate on building the infrastructure that will secure the future of truth.
