Meet Speaker Olalla Novoa Ojea: Building AI Governance Without Losing Reader Trust

Media Party

Artificial intelligence is no longer a pilot project sitting off to the side of the newsroom — it’s already embedded in editorial workflows across the industry. For most media organizations, the real question has shifted: it’s no longer whether to use AI, but how to do so without compromising the one asset a news outlet cannot afford to lose — trust.

To explore how a major media group is answering that question in practice, Media Party Barcelona — taking place September 7–8 at CaixaForum — will feature Olalla Novoa Ojea, Director of Artificial Intelligence at PRISA Media, as a speaker.

About Olalla Novoa Ojea

Olalla Novoa Ojea is a journalist by training who has spent her career at the intersection of newsrooms and product. She began in the United States on a Fulbright Commission scholarship, working as a Wall Street television correspondent before becoming an editions coordinator at The Wall Street Journal.

Back in Spain, she led the breaking news and special reports teams at El Mundo, where she was also responsible for digital innovation. She later moved into digital product consulting at Prodigioso Volcán, specializing in voice products, before joining PRISA Media — Spain’s largest media group and publisher of El País — where she first led the Voice and Smart Speakers area and now serves as Director of Artificial Intelligence, driving the group’s responsible adoption of AI across its newsrooms.

Novoa Ojea is also a regular voice in the industry’s efforts to professionalize AI governance in journalism: alongside Gonzalo Teubal Rodríguez, who leads AI Governance at PRISA Media, she co-teaches the risk, ethics, and editorial governance module of JournalismAI’s Strategy Lab for Latin America.

AI is already in the newsroom. The question is how to use it without losing what matters most: trust.

In her session, Novoa Ojea will walk through how PRISA Media approached this challenge strategically — building a governance model designed to let the organization scale AI adoption across its newsrooms without losing editorial control. Rather than treating governance as a brake on innovation, her talk frames it as the condition that makes innovation possible at scale: clear rules, shared criteria, and oversight that keep pace with how fast the technology — and its use inside newsrooms — is moving.

As newsrooms across the industry move past experimentation and into structured AI adoption, Olalla Novoa Ojea’s perspective offers a concrete, tested model for editorial leaders, product teams, and newsroom managers looking to scale AI responsibly — without gambling away audience trust in the process.
