Frequently asked questions: what to expect at Media Party Buenos Aires 2026

Media Party

Media Party Buenos Aires 2026 takes place October 29–31 with the biggest edition of the year. Here are the answers to the questions we get asked most.

What is Media Party, and who is it for?

Media Party is a nonprofit organization that drives media innovation through technology. It was born in Buenos Aires within the Hacks/Hackers community and has been held every year since 2012. It is open to journalists, developers, designers, data scientists, media executives and entrepreneurs: the idea is for different profiles to meet and work together.

When and where is Media Party Buenos Aires 2026?

  • Thursday, October 29, and Friday, October 30: Ciudad Cultural Konex (Sarmiento 3131, Buenos Aires), from 10 a.m.
  • Saturday, October 31: AreaTres El Salvador, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., with the closing hackathon.

It is part of the Buenos Aires TecWeek agenda.

What is this year’s theme?

The theme is Storytelling in the age of agents. AI agents can already generate and argue narratives without human intervention, so journalism is now also competing with systems that tell stories. That is why the program puts cognitive sovereignty at its center: the ability to think and decide without handing editorial judgment over to a machine. At the same time, it invites participants to experiment with agents as a creative tool.

Who are the keynote speakers at Media Party Buenos Aires 2026?

The headline speaker is Caspar Llewellyn Smith, Chief AI Officer at The Guardian. He is joined by Marina Walker Guevara (Pulitzer Center), Sevgil Musaieva (Ukrainska Pravda), Andrew Fishman (The Intercept Brasil), Marco Túlio Pires (Google DeepMind), Saša Vučinić (North Base Media), Tomás Escobar (Shorta), Franco Piccato (Chequeado) and Brittani Kollar (MediaWise/Poynter).

How are the three days organized?

Media Party is not just about listening: each edition moves from discovering to learning and, finally, to creating.

  • Thursday 29: keynotes in the morning, the Media Fair (a showcase of media projects and tools), hands-on workshops in the afternoon, and a closing round of lightning talks, short presentations on projects and ideas.
  • Friday 30: the day starts with sandboxes, group discussion spaces, followed by lightning talks and workshop sessions.
  • Saturday 31: a day of building, with the hackathon and the final pitches.

The full schedule is available at mediapartyba26.sched.com.

How does the hackathon work?

Interdisciplinary teams work throughout the day to build functional prototypes and present them at the end in a pitch format. It is not just for developers: journalism, design and strategy are as necessary as code.
