Media Party 2017: For 6th consecutive year, rebooting journalism in Latin America

The Media Party is a three days event with the support of Hacks/Hackers Buenos Aires (13–15th of August in Buenos Aires, Argentina), that brings together 2500 entrepreneurs, journalists, software programmers and designers from five Continents to work together for the future of media. This year the event will merge big companies like New York Times, The Guardian, Vox, Google Facebook, plus regional communities of the biggest network of journalists and developers in the world like Mozilla and Open News.

Among the speakers of last year, Media Party hosted Aron Pilhofer, creator of The New York Times interactive team, founder of Hacks/Hackers now leading the interactive team at The Guardian, Lauren Rabaino, editorial product director from Vox Media, Mar Cabra from International Consortium of Investigative Journalists and William Lyon from Neo4J; Martin Shelton from The Coral Project (The New York Times / Washington Post); Pierre Romera from Journalism++; Pietro Passarelli, Open News Fellow at Vox; Douglas Arellanes, co-founder of Sourcefabric; Dan Sinker, Knight-Mozilla Open News Director; among other Open News Fellows working at The New York Times, FrontLine, CorrecTv and NPR. Also, for the first time Media Party hosted a russian guest, Ivan Kolpakov Editor in Chief of Meduza.

This year, during the three days participants will be able to attend more than 30 keynotes led by global experts; they will be trained by the best mentors with tools and methodologies in the field of data journalism, revenue, metrics and engagement, with more than 100 hours of workshops. As usual, Media Party will have a showcase scene at the Media Fair, the best innovative show and tell space for 70 world class initiatives in the media landscape and finally, participants will be embedded at the largest media innovation hackathon in Latin America.

The conference has impact in different fields: journalists, developers, designers and hackers activists will be trained by the brightest minds in the world, embedded in a culture of collaboration, openness, learning by doing and impact in tech and skills adoption. Brands and products will have access to impactful game changers, getting attention from the market, senior media decisions makers with a huge press coverage.

Recruiters will have access to the best developers in the market. The Media Party is getting international attention for the ability to connect between the Media Companies and smart programmers, now embedded at New York Times, Texas Tribune, MIT Media Lab, etc. Finally, investors will have the chance to have one-to-one contact with the best media startups in Latin America.

The Media Party from Buenos Aires is the biggest Hacks/Hackers event in the world. The conference was founded in 2012 by Hacks/Hackers Buenos Aires and has been growing since then around 30% per year. Is supported by a vibrant community of media innovators from all over the planet and is organized with a support of a meetup group that has reached more than 7000 members in Buenos Aires city, expect to reach around 2500 participants this time.
