FAQ - Media Party

General FAQ

Media Party is an NGO that promotes media innovation through the application and creation of digital tools, and fosters a global community that generates solutions for an information ecosystem with journalistic criteria that is sustainable and trustworthy.

We build capacity, develop talent, accelerate projects, and influence public policy through events, education, and incubation. Originating in Buenos Aires within the Hacks/Hackers community, Media Party operates at the intersection of journalism and technology.

Our mission is defined by three core pillars:

  • Better informed
  • Better networks
  • Better democracy

We tackle the trust crisis in contemporary media by combining rigorous journalistic criteria with advanced digital tools, ensuring the future of information remains resilient and independent.

Every Media Party operates as a hands-on incubator using a progressive three-step workflow:

  • Discover: Strategic keynotes from global pioneers, rapid-fire lightning talks, and an interactive Media Fair showcasing cutting-edge tech tools.
  • Learn: Hands-on, practical workshops and sandbox discussion spaces to master new methodologies and workflows.
  • Do: A high-energy Hackathon where cross-disciplinary teams build, pitch, and demo functional open-source prototypes to solve media challenges.

Media Party is open to journalists, software developers, data scientists, designers, media executives, entrepreneurs, and civic tech advocates. Anyone interested in shaping the future of news, AI, and information integrity is welcome to join.

Media Party 2026 Global Events

Media Party NYC took place on May 8–10, 2026, at Columbia University’s Brown Institute for Media Innovation in New York City. The sold-out summit focused on newsroom workflows with AI, algorithmic distribution, local news empowerment, and the rise of influencers and vertical video in the post-search era.

Beyond powerhouse keynotes and practical workshops, the summit concluded with a six-hour hackathon. The winning project, Citizen Journalism Network (CJN), developed an AI tool that clusters local community signals into real-time topic bubbles to eliminate "parachute journalism." The team received three months of dedicated venture readiness training and mentorship from the Brown Institute to scale their prototype.

Media Party Barcelona makes its European debut on September 7–8, 2026, at CaixaForum Barcelona. This edition bridges Latin American collaborative innovation with European strategic media expertise to answer one central question: How do we sustain the integrity of information in the post-search era and the age of generative AI?

Over two days, attendees will collaborate across four core tracks: information integrity, newsroom AI frameworks, audience discovery, and sustainable business models. Participants will engage in keynotes with simultaneous translation, hands-on workshops, a Media Fair showcase, and a dedicated hackathon featuring funding prizes to accelerate winning prototypes.
