For 8th consecutive year Media Party will be hosted in Buenos Aires, Argentina, with more than 2000 participants. Media Party bring together experts to work for the future of media. In the past editions, journalists, developers, designers and hackers activists were inspired by the brightest minds in the journalistic world who shared their experiences in Ciudad Cultural Konex.
Since 2012, the event merged big companies like New York Times, The Guardian, Vox, Google, Quartz, plus regional communities of the biggest network of journalists and developers in the world like Mozilla and Open News. The last year, the main speakers were Jeff Jarvis, CUNY, Aron Pilhofer, Temple University (ex New York Times, The Guardian, founder of Hacks/Hackers), Andrew Fishman (The intercept), Amanda Hickman (former Buzzfeed Open Lab), Emily Goligosky, The Puzzle Project, Daniel Sieberg (former Google NewsLabs, Civil), Shan He (Uber data science team), Emily Withrow (Quartz bot), Rigoberto Carbajal (digital head of ICIJ, Panama Papers), Alexandra Xanic, from Quinto Elemento, among others.
Among the 250 speakers of previous six year, Media Party hosted Andrew Losowski from Coral Project, Greg Barber from Washington Post, Lauren Rabaino, Tei Brundrett and Melissa Bell from Vox Media, Mar Cabra from International Consortium of Investigative Journalists and William Lyon from Neo4J; Dan Sinker, Knight-Mozilla Open News Director; among other Open News Fellows working at The New York Times, FrontLine, CorrecTv and NPR. Also, entrepreneurs from Rusia, Dima Katib from AJ+ and China.
This year, during the three days participants were able to attend more than 20 keynotes led by global experts; they were trained by the best mentors with tools and methodologies in the field of data journalism, revenue, metrics and engagement, with more than 100 hours of workshops. As usual, Media Party had a showcase scene at the Media Fair, the best innovative show and tell space for 60 world class initiatives in the media landscape and launched the second Media Innovation Award of Media Party, plus a hackathon.
The conference has an impact in different fields: journalists, developers, designers and hackers activists were trained by the brightest minds in the world, embedded in a culture of collaboration, openness, learning by doing and impact in tech and skills adoption. The Media Party from Buenos Aires is the biggest Hacks/Hackers event in the world. The conference was founded in 2012 by Hacks/Hackers Buenos Aires and has been growing since then around 30% per year. Is supported by a vibrant community of media innovators from all over the planet and is organized with the support of a meetup group that has reached more than 10,000 members in Buenos Aires city.
