Artificial Intelligence (AI) models are transforming the way people understand content creation. Many organizations are actively identifying potential ethical dilemmas that may arise as various models find their place in newsrooms. Nima Boscarino, an AI Ethics Engineer and expert at Hugging Face platform, is currently investigating the necessary steps to ensure the safe use of AI-generated content.
In 2021, Boscarino worked as a Machine Learning Software Engineer at Borealis AI before starting his career at Hugging Face in 2022 as a Developer Advocate. In his role, he has been responsible for building community-based processes related to various AI models with the objective of creating necessary tools to reduce the reproduction of harmful content.
Given that AI systems are complex, and their processes fairly opaque for those who are not specialized in their development, Boscarino actively engages with Hugging Face users to gather feedback, which helps to develop Ethical Categories, Safeguards, and other methods to identify potential biases in AI models.
We are crafting tools and safeguards in addition to improving our documentation practices to ensure open source science empowers individuals and continues to minimize potential harms”, wrote Nima Boscarino, Yacine Jernite, Giada Pistilli, Irene Solaiman and Elizabeth Allendorf in their “Ethics and Society Newsletter” for Hugging Face.
