Engineers, developers, tech enthusiasts — welcome! Journalists, designers, entrepreneurs, more than welcome! The Media Party Hackathon, the hands-on component of the event powered by Hacks/Hackers, is your playground to explore and shape the future of the news by collaborating with expert journalists and media professionals.

The core focus of Media Party is “media innovation,” and this year’s hackathon will concentrate on the intersection of “AI for news: opportunities and challenges in a synthetic world”. Some of the themes we’ll explore include generative AI, the ethics of AI, AI security and privacy, as well as broader journalism issues like the evolving local news ecosystem, misinformation, product thinking, and mental health in a post-pandemic world.

Curious to know what participating in the Media Party Hackathon is like? Here’s an overview of how it fits into the Media Party conference.

Previous Activities:

Building on the insights from the conference’s keynotes and workshops, we’ve designed mentorship sessions to kickstart your hackathon journey. Join us on Friday, June 9, from 1 pm to 4 pm, where our seasoned mentors will guide your project development, ensuring you’re well-prepared for the pitch session.

During the Hackathon:

Ready to bring your innovative ideas to life? On Saturday, June 10, starting at 10 am, you’ll have the stage to pitch your unique solutions to AI and journalism challenges. After uploading your pitches to Hackdash, a globally recognized platform for tracking hackathon ideas, it’s time to form your dream teams. Our mentorship teams will facilitate this process, ensuring that everyone finds a way to contribute. By 4 pm, you’ll get the chance to showcase your work, with the top three projects announced at 5:30 pm.

What To Expect Afterwards:

Our commitment to innovation doesn’t end with the event. The top three projects will continue to receive “special interest” from our partners, fostering long-term growth and establishing lasting relationships.
