Tomorrow is Hackathon day, and we have great news for you.
Don’t miss the opportunity to participate and put into practice everything you’ve learned at this Media Party. The Hackathon is a staple event and where the magic happens: a day where multidisciplinary teams build prototypes of innovative projects in just six hours. This year, the focus is on the application and use of artificial intelligence, with major prizes available to help turn these projects into reality.
Breaking news: In addition to the $5,000 USD prize awarded by the ICFJ, Hacks/Hackers is adding another $1,000 USD to the pot.
Come early! At 10:15 AM, there will be a pre-event session with Freddy Alfonso Boulton Gonzalez, developer at Hugging Face. By participating, you will receive $100 USD in credits to use on the platform that hosts the world’s largest open-source machine learning community.
Several projects have already been uploaded to Hackdash. If you have an idea, don’t forget to submit it, or check out the current proposals to join one of the teams.
How does the Hackathon work?
- 11:00 AM — Pitching & Team Formation: The Hackathon kicks off with preliminary setup sessions and pitches for projects uploaded to Hackdash, allowing everyone to evaluate proposals, offer collaboration, and join work teams. At this stage, similar projects and teams often merge, groups recruit members with specific skills needed for development, or some projects simply fail to form a team. Come prepared to pitch your idea and/or present what you can contribute to others’ projects.
- 12:00 PM — Hands on! Work begins on the projects. Teams typically build an MVP or a functional prototype during the session while outlining their vision and value proposition for the media industry.
- 6:00 PM — Final Pitches: A new round of pitches takes place to showcase the results achieved by each team. Based on this input, the jury will deliberate to choose the winner(s) according to the evaluation criteria. Multiple projects may be selected, just one, or—though it has never happened before—none.
- 7:00 PM — Winners Announcement: The judges announce the selected projects.
