The international journalism and technology innovation conference opens its call for proposals and free registration for its first European edition, to be held on September 7 and 8 at CaixaForum Barcelona.
BARCELONA — Media Party, the international conference that has brought together the global media innovation community for 15 editions in Buenos Aires and the United States, today announces the first speakers for its European debut. Concurrently, the gathering is opening its call for proposals for workshops and lightning talks, as well as free registration for attendees.
The event will take place on September 7 and 8, 2026, at CaixaForum Barcelona, featuring a strategic agenda focused on how to maintain information integrity in the post-search and generative AI era.
First Confirmed Speakers
The inaugural European edition will feature global leaders pacing the intersection of technology, media research, and strategic newsroom implementation:
- Nic Newman: Senior Research Associate at the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism (University of Oxford) and lead author of the Journalism, Media, and Technology Trends and Predictions 2026 report. For over a decade, he led the Digital News Report, the global benchmark study on news consumption based on more than 90,000 interviews across 48 markets.
- Clara Jiménez Cruz: Co-founder and CEO of Maldita.es, a Spanish foundation dedicated to combating misinformation through fact-checking and data journalism. She is the chair of the European Fact-Checking Standards Network (EFCSN) and a board member of the International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN).
- Teresa Mondría Terol: Senior Manager of Artificial Intelligence at NPR. Specializing in applying AI and machine learning in newsrooms, her work spans algorithm-assisted research, internal tool productization, and editorial workflow redesign at one of the benchmarks of public service journalism. Among other projects, she conducted the AI-assisted document analysis for the Epstein Files at The New York Times.

Call for Proposals
Starting today, creators, technologists, and media industry professionals can submit their projects and methodologies to join the official program under two formats:
- Practical Workshops: Hands-on working sessions dedicated to content verification, authenticity, and traceability, AI-powered editorial workflows, sustainable business models, and advanced newsroom tools.
- Lightning Talks: Brief, dynamic presentations built around real-world use cases, technical demonstrations, and innovation experiments.

Accreditation for Media Party Barcelona 2026 is now available completely free of charge on the official website MediaParty.org or directly through Eventbrite.
The gathering is designed as a multidisciplinary convergence point for journalists, developers, designers, product managers, researchers, policymakers, civic organizations, and media industry leaders. Over the two days, CaixaForum will operate as a living laboratory combining keynote speeches, practical workshops, collaborative workspaces, and a project fair.
Global Support and Local Coordination
The deployment of this first European edition features the strategic support of international organizations in the sector, including the International Center for Journalists (ICFJ), Ashoka Foundation, Journalism AI, Media Development Investment Fund (MDIF), North Base Media, International Media Support (IMS), Free Press Unlimited, Xalok, and the World Bank Group.
Strategic coordination and regional ecosystem liaison are led by Clara Soteras as local ambassador. Soteras is a media consultant specializing in SEO and audience growth, founder of The Audience Club, associate professor at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, and author of the specialized book “Manual de Instrucciones SEO para Medios” (SEO Instruction Manual for Media).
