For three days, more than 2,300 professionals from various disciplines within the media industry met with a clear objective: to revolutionize journalism through technology.
From Media Party, we thank all the speakers, participants, attendees and sponsors for helping us forge a community that, for 12 years, has held the most important media innovation conference in Latin America.
During the August 29 and 30 at Konex 7 Keynotes were carried out, 22 practical and theoretical workshops, 26 lightning talks, 28 projects at Media Feria, and more special activities where they discussed sustainability, generative artificial intelligence, local news, misinformation and the creator economy.
According to the results of the Media Party survey, 77% of attendees felt satisfied and very satisfied with the experience and among the most popular events were the Keynotes of the main speakers, which were held to a full room, and the panel “The Business of Streaming” where Luzu, Blender and Gelatina participated.
Among the speakers We have media experts such as Sam Guzik, Senior Expert Advisor en Future Today Institute y Product Leader en New York Public Radio; Annemarie Dooling, VP de Audience Experiences en USA Today Network; Mattia Peretti, Knight Fellow of the International Center for Journalists (ICFJ); Anna Vissens, Data Science and Artificial Intelligence Team Leader at Guardian News & Media; Caio Almeida, Software Engineer at Meedan, and verification tool developer Check, and María José Iriarte from the Google News team that presented the work on OlimpIA together with the La Nación team.
This is how the Hackathon was experienced
On the third day of the event at AreaTres, the classic Hackathon was held with a great call. During the day, 12 multidisciplinary teams created and presented prototypes of innovative projects. In this edition, the focus was artificial intelligence, news and democracy, and participants competed for prizes totaling USD $2,500, generously awarded by the International Center for Journalists (ICFJ).
The jury was made up of Maggie Farley del International Center for Journalists (ICFJ), Ana Paula Valacco of JournalismAI, Jessica Gomes the Meedan, Nicolas Russo from Media Party and Matias Blayer de Google Developers Expert. The evaluation of the projects took into account a series of key criteria, including the alignment of the project with the central theme, its ability to address significant issues at the intersection of AI and journalism, its consideration of ethical issues, the usability of the project , the composition and structure of the team behind it, and, finally, the quality of the prototype developed.
The winning projects were:
- OFFICIAL BULLETIN: A system based on AI for the structuring and categorization of all the resolutions of the Official Gazette and from this structured data, the possibility of developing multiple alert, messaging, chat and panel services.
- Chuz-bot: An interactive project that, through a chatbot, collects and presents the positions of electoral candidates on a wide range of important topics, from economic policy to human rights, the environment and more.
- Anti clickbait: Browser plugin that, through generative tools, analyzes news titles from different portals and evaluates the relationship between the title and the content of the article.
Media Party 2024 testifies to the passion and dedication of media professionals, designers, programmers, activists and entrepreneurs who seek to transform journalism through technology. Media Party continues to be a beacon of innovation in Latin America and is currently expanding: this year we present Media Party University and on September 27, 28 and 29 it will take place Media Party New York, the second Media Party in the United States.
