Media Party and the World Bank Launch Innovative Training Program for Journalists Focused on Development Data

Enzo Evangelista

Media Party, Latin America’s premier media innovation conference, in partnership with the World Bank, announces the launch of a hybrid training program for journalists in Argentina on the road to Media Party Buenos Aires 2025.

“Data, Visualizations, and Artificial Intelligence for Storytelling” is a program designed to empower media professionals with innovative tools—including Artificial Intelligence (AI)—and a deep understanding of global challenges. The goal is to foster inclusive and sustainable development while giving these stories visibility at the conference. The program is specifically tailored for journalists working in Argentine media.

In an ever-evolving media landscape, journalists face the challenge of turning complex information into narratives that not only raise awareness but also drive action. Supported by the World Bank, this initiative aligns with the goals of fostering innovative solutions to highlight inclusive and sustainable development, translating technical analysis into accessible stories, and training new generations of journalists to prepare them for a dynamic job market.

Additionally, World Bank micro-grants will be promoted to support innovative journalistic projects.

With a 13-year track record, Media Party is renowned for gathering over 2,000 professionals annually and connecting a network of more than 15,000 journalists, tech innovators, and sustainable media ecosystem developers.

Hybrid Methodology and Innovative Approach

The training is built on a hybrid model that combines high-impact virtual workshops with a project production phase supported by micro-grants, culminating in the showcase of the most outstanding stories at Media Party Buenos Aires.

The methodological approach prioritizes the use of World Bank data, including the practical application of key information from flagship reports such as “Poverty Traps” and the “Economic Memorandum.” It will also focus on project-based learning, the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI), and building strategic alliances to ensure the publication and international visibility of the developed projects.

Program Components

The program is structured into three days of workshops focusing on the strategic use of data, data visualizations, and a final design thinking session.

Wednesday, June 18th — 5:00 PM — Day 1

  • “Data Analysis for Journalists with AI” & “Data360: A Digital Tool for Journalists” — 1.5 hours — Virtual — Flor Coelho and Paola Ballon

The World Bank’s new platform features over 10,000 indicators for 200 economies. How can you create your own customized, downloadable reports ready for your investigations? How do you find indicators, databases, and reports on your topics of interest? The Data360 portal provides resources for these public policy questions and more. Leveraging the power of AI, we will learn to translate technical analysis into understandable narratives—moving from data to stories—and how to utilize NotebookLM.

Wednesday, June 25th — 5:00 PM — Day 2

  • “Impactful Data Visualization and AI-Assisted Generation” — 1.5 hours — Virtual — Andrés Snitcofsky
