Data 360 Challenge Extended! Submit your project by April 20 and reshape the future of news

Media Party

Great innovations often require a refinement process that doesn’t always align with initial timelines. Following the launch of the Data 360 Global Challenge—a joint initiative between Media Party and the World Bank—the interest from the global media and tech community has been remarkable. However, given the complexity of the challenge and the depth of the data available, the decision has been made to allow more time for proposal development.

The new deadline for project submissions is April 20. This decision aims to ensure that teams of journalists, developers, and data specialists have the necessary room to present robust solutions that truly impact information integrity on a global scale.

Turning Data into Trust

The core objective of the challenge remains the same: to leverage the World Bank’s Data360 API to develop next-generation verification technologies that strengthen information integrity.

In a data-saturated information ecosystem—where the spread of digital manipulation, misinformation, and the fragmentation of shared truths threaten democracy and public well-being—the call to action is urgent. Therefore, the challenge invites proposals focused on six key areas:

  • Data Dialogue: Conversational AI interfaces that allow users to “talk” to World Bank indicators in a natural and accessible way.
  • Instant Visual Stories: Tools that transform complex data into simple, engaging visual stories.
  • Shielding the Pipeline: Technical solutions designed to protect data integrity from its origin in the API to its final publication.
  • A Digital Passport for Facts: Traceability protocols and metadata that certify the source and historical context of information with a single click.
  • Permanent Source Seals: Digital “sealing” systems that permanently link journalistic claims with official data sources.
  • The Wildcard: A space for pure innovation. Disruptive proposals that use technology in unforeseen ways to strengthen data journalism and transparency.

You’re still in time to join!

Don’t miss the chance to lead the technological innovation needed to protect information transparency. The Data 360 Global Challenge is a global open call for multidisciplinary teams looking to make a real difference.

Keep in mind:

  • Deadline: You have until April 20 to submit your proposal.
  • Prizes: The winning team will receive a cash prize starting at USD 5,000, along with support to continue developing their solution.
  • Additional Benefits: All participants will receive direct mentorship from World Bank and Media Party experts, international visibility, and access to an innovation network.

This extension is the ultimate opportunity for teams that needed an extra margin to organize their resources or finalize a disruptive idea. The goal is to ensure that no innovative solution is left out of the process. The fight against misinformation calls on everyone: journalists, developers, designers, and data enthusiasts.

If you’re part of this community, you know what we can build together. This is the moment—what are you waiting for?

Review the detailed requirements and submit your proposal before the deadline.
