Guadalupe López presents “Quiero Retrú,” an innovative game developed by the organization Chequeado to combat misinformation. The project seeks to strengthen critical thinking when facing content that appeals to emotions to circulate rapidly through messaging applications. López warns that misinformation exploits trust within our close circles to spread without filters. Therefore, the initiative proposes a playful methodology that teaches users to question what they receive on a daily basis.
Inspired by the rules of the traditional Argentine card game, truco, this pedagogical system invites users to “counter-ask” and verify data. It focuses especially on platforms like WhatsApp and TikTok, where the origin of information is often vague or unreliable. The game teaches players to question non-specialized sources and avoid sharing content impulsively, even if it comes from acquaintances.
The final strategy to win this cultural battle consists of contrasting information with reputable media and professional experts in the field. López concludes that, in the height of the artificial intelligence era, the best collective defense is to activate critical thinking within the community. By adopting these practices, citizens transform into active filters against the falsehoods flooding the digital ecosystem. “Quiero Retrú” thus positions itself as an essential tool for preserving truth in modern communication.
