For over 12 years, Media Party has been fostering the intersection of journalists, designers, programmers, activists, and entrepreneurs with the goal of revolutionizing journalism through technology.

This year, we are offering a series of activities specifically designed for people with a technical background. Here, you can learn about the latest technological trends and debate their responsible application in media from an ethical, security, and privacy perspective.

Thursday, August 29

  • Keynote by Caio Almeida (Meedan): Caio is a senior software engineer with 20 years of experience, specializing in Ruby on Rails and JavaScript for the last 15 years. Since 2012, he has been part of Meedan, where he developed Check, the award-winning open-source software for fact-checking.
  • Keynote by Anna Vissens: Lead of the Data Science and AI team at Guardian News & Media. She has extensive experience in ambitious projects and team management.

Friday, August 30

  • Workshops: This year, Google Developer Experts joins Media Party with two workshops specifically designed for programmers and computer scientists who wish to develop with Gemini’s various artificial intelligence models. With the participation of Nicolás Bello, Jorge Cano, Paula Martínez and Juan Irungaray, there will be credits in Google services for attendees. Capacity is limited and on a first-come, first-served basis.

Saturday, August 31

  • Hackathon: A day where multidisciplinary teams create prototypes of tools, products or services of impact for the news and media industry with a focus on artificial intelligence, news and democracies. It will be on Saturday, August 31 at AreaTres El Salvador. We will have the presence of teams from JournalismAI, Meedan, Google Developers Experience, among other organizations, and there will be cash prizes. Register here.
